Gaying, in her many years as a UP professor, has assumed many roles - she sat as coordinator of the UP Cebu Committee on Cebuano Language, the UP Cebu Sentro ng Wikang Filipino and the UP Cebu Arts and Culture Committee, and ,currently, a member of the Gender and Development Committee.
She is more known, however, as the artistic director, a post since 1983, of the University of the Philippines Students’ Theater Arts Guild for Education or UPSTAGE
Her artistic career started with the stage, either as a thespian, a director, or as a translator of plays into Cebuano. In 2008, she turned to film acting.
She has served the larger community by being a resource person and facilitator of trainings on the performing arts and a consultant in community theater groups, especially those that promote children and women empowerment.
