Lawak Sinehan is packed with students, faculty, and members of the art community for an engaging lecture-discussion on the evolving practice of curatorship, opening a space to reflect on how exhibitions are conceptualized, researched, and brought to life, with Associate Professor and UP Cebu Studio Arts Coordinator Dr. Laya Boquiren-Gonzales as the resource speaker.<\/span><\/p>\n Drawing from the words of curator Apinan Poshyananda, the talk described the role of the curator as akin to an \u201cacrobat,\u201d \u201cchef,\u201d \u201cgo-between,\u201d and \u201cdreamer.\u201d These metaphors captured the multifaceted nature of curatorial work\u2014balancing vision and collaboration, assembling ideas and artworks with care, and mediating meaningful connections between artists, institutions, and audiences. The discussion emphasized that curating is not simply about arranging artworks within a gallery space. Rather, it progressively becomes a research-driven practice that thoughtfully selects, organizes, and contextualizes works to shape narratives and generate dialogue.<\/span><\/p>\n Participants were invited to consider how curatorial decisions are never arbitrary or neutral.
