Associate Professor
Shane Carreon is Associate Professor of Creative Writing and Cultural Studies in the Fine Arts Program. He is author of history and poetry books, most recently the first single-author poetry collection in the Philippines on coming out trans, In Praise of Wilderness (UP Press, 2021). He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, Academy of American Poets Prize, Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award, and Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature among others. He serves as judge in the Migrant Worker Poetry Competition annually held in Singapore and as liaison-at-large for various local literary events in the Philippines. He received his PhD in English at Binghamton University, New York where he expanded his practice in creative writing to include scholarly thinkings in the areas of phenomenology, translation, transnationalism, visual culture, popular culture, gender, and decolonial studies.
