Lecturer
Jeruel N. Roa is a Lecturer in Public Relations and Public Information, and Integrated Marketing Communication in the Communication Program. Sir Jerry served in various positions for different functions at the Corporate Affairs / Corporate Communication / Public Relations Office of San Miguel Corporation in two decades. As the company’s Advocacy Manager for Visayas and Mindanao, his unit managed the divergent needs and expectations of its various stakeholders (Stakeholder Management); establishing and maintaining relationships and strategic alliances with and among employees, communities, local governments and other public agencies, media outfits and organizations, chambers of commerce, socio-civic clubs and advocacy groups.
He is also an Instructor in Business Communication and English at the Centre for International Education (CIE British School) where he is an accredited University of Cambridge English Language Assessment examiner. He used to serve as Vice President handling the Administration and Human Resources functions of the institution.
He entered UP as a BS Biology student with the intention of proceeding to Medicine. But it wasn’t meant to be as he returned to the vocation closest to his heart, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in UP Cebu. He was Managing Editor of Tug-Ani and his first job was as Staff Writer of Vistas, The Cebu Weekly Newsmagazine, before embarking on a career in public relations.
Communication and healing continue to influence his affairs. At present he is Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Founding Member of the Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation, Inc. – Cebu, a 30-year old service organization which helps provide medical care to needy patients, especially children with cancer. He is a member of Autism Society Philippines and a father to a person who is within the autism spectrum. He has served as President of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry twice, in different decades. He also has served as a Member of the Visayas Executive Committee of Philippine Business for Social Progress. His work in the field of corporate communication was recognized when he was selected as one of several Tatak UP awardees by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association – Cebu Chapter.
