COMMUNICATION & MEDIA PROGRAM

Advancing CCAD’s commitment to transdisciplinary knowledge creation and community engagement, the MA in Communication and Media of UP Cebu is designed as a graduate program for critical inquiry, interdisciplinary scholarship, and reflective practice in communication and media. The program foregrounds theoretical depth, cultural analysis, and development-oriented perspectives to equip students with the analytical, research, and professional capacities needed to engage contemporary media technologies, industries, and sociocultural issues.

VISION

The Masters of Communication and Media of the University of the Philippines Cebu envisions itself as the leading academic program in the Visayas and Mindanao. It gives primacy to the transformational role of journalists and communicators in multimedia platforms.

 

Through instruction, research, and public service, the program molds graduates who are excellent media practitioners and communicators with a deep sense of social responsibility and respect for cultural diversity, proactively caring for the environment and practicing ethical behavior in their professions and advocacies.

MISSION

In the diverse fields of journalism, development communication, integrated marketing communication, organizational communication, intercultural communication, and creative communication, the Communication Program produces leaders who uphold the highest standards of media and communication practice.

 

The program equips graduates to become journalists in multimedia platforms and communicators in public and private organizations with ethics and excellent skills, openness to lifelong learning, creativity to initiate sustainable solutions, courage to hold those in power accountable, and commitment to empower disenfranchised communities to bring about social justice.

OUR PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)

  1. Generate new knowledge through interdisciplinary scholarship and produce creative outputs, while advancing research innovation and lifelong learning;

2. Demonstrate communication practice grounded in high ethical standards and professional integrity;

3. Develop advanced research competencies necessary for further graduate studies and scholarly inquiry;

4. Apply effective communication principles and pedagogical skills in training entry-level and junior communication practitioners and students;

5. Formulate communication policies, designs, projects, and programs responsive to organizational and societal needs;

6. Integrate innovation in communication practice within community and industry settings;

7. Contribute to public service, inclusive and sustainable community development, and nation-building; and

8. Engage in academic and professional collaboration with international partners and institutions.
