Two communication faculty members of the University of the Philippines Cebu will participate in separate panel discussions today as part of the ongoing celebration of Cebu Press Freedom Week.
Senior Lecturer Atty. Ian Maticajon will join the panel of “Virality vs. Credibility: The Ethical Cost of Clickbait Journalism,” organized by The FREEMAN and Banat News.
Maticajon will be joined by Philippine STAR News Editor Marichu A. Villanueva and political content creator and social commentator Lovely Granada. The forum will be moderated by The FREEMAN News Editor Fred P. Languido.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Golden Peak Hotel & Suites in Cebu City.
In the afternoon, Asst. Prof. Mayette Tabada will join “Views and Values,” a forum organized by CDN Digital in partnership with GCash, which will examine how audiences can evaluate credibility in an increasingly crowded digital information environment.
The forum will explore the question: As traditional news organizations, social media creators, and other online voices compete for audiences’ attention, how do we determine what—and who—to trust?
Joining Asst. Prof. Tabada in the discussion are Anne Porter, chemical engineer and fitness and lifestyle influencer, and Ingrid Rose Ann Berona, Chief Risk Officer of G-Xchange Inc. The forum will be moderated by Pia Piquero.
“Views and Values” will be held at the UP Cebu Performing Arts Hall.
The participation of the communication faculty members highlights UP Cebu’s continuing engagement in conversations on journalism, media ethics, and credibility amid the evolving digital information landscape.
