CCAD stands in solidarity with communities, environmental advocates, government agencies, and partner organizations in commemorating World Environment Day 2026 through “Panaghiusa Alang sa Katawhan ug Kinaiyahan: Lihok Na, Karon Na” on June 5, 2026, at Heritage Park, Cebu Capitol Compound, Cebu City.
As one of the event’s partner institutions, CCAD joins the growing call for urgent and collective action in addressing the climate crisis, emphasizing the role of education, culture, communication, and the arts in building a more sustainable future.
This year’s observance comes at a critical moment. Across the globe, conversations on environmental sustainability are increasingly focused not only on understanding environmental challenges but also on implementing concrete solutions. Emerging environmental priorities include efforts to keep global warming below the 1.5°C threshold, the development of resilient and sustainable cities amid rapid urbanization, and the pursuit of climate solutions that balance economic development with environmental protection.
In many ways, the world has entered a new phase of environmental action—one that moves beyond identifying problems and toward actively implementing solutions. The challenge now is no longer whether climate change is real, but how communities, institutions, and individuals can work together to address it through meaningful and sustained action.
For CCAD, this commitment is reflected in the creative and scholarly work of its students and faculty. Through design, visual arts, communication, and research, the college continues to explore innovative ways of responding to environmental concerns while promoting sustainable practices and community engagement.
Visitors to the World Environment Day celebration are invited to visit the CCAD exhibit, which will feature selected student works that engage with environmental issues through creative practice. The exhibition highlights projects that promote:
- Upcycling and repurposing as creative approaches to reducing waste;
- The sustainable use of local and indigenous materials in design and artistic production; and
- Greater awareness of the declining health of coastal and marine environments, particularly those that sustain many communities across Cebu and the Visayas.
Through these works, students demonstrate how creative disciplines can contribute to environmental awareness, encourage responsible consumption, and inspire conversations about sustainability and stewardship.
The event will also feature multi-sectoral dialogues on pressing environmental concerns facing Cebu, exhibits showcasing sustainability initiatives and community innovations, cultural performances, and opportunities for public engagement and networking among organizations committed to climate action.
CCAD encourages students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the public to participate in the celebration and join the collective effort to build a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
As the event’s theme reminds us: “Lihok Na, Karon Na”—the time for action is now.
