CCAD Faculty and the DOrSU University Research Complex Team
The College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD) and Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) are exploring a potential partnership to develop and test natural dyes as sustainable art materials following a benchmarking activity at CCAD on September 21, 2026.
The visit was initiated by DOrSU’s University Research Complex as part of its Development of Dye as an Art Medium Generated from Natural Assets (D-DAGTA) Project: A Regenerative Approach to Filipinnovation in Arts, which explores the development of natural dyes as sustainable art materials.
The project is being developed at the Institute for Natural Products Discovery and Development (i-NatProd), a natural products laboratory funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The DOrSU delegation was composed of Wilanfranco C. Tayone, RCh, PhD; Gorjel E. Llanita, PhD; Donnell C. Cereno, DiSDS; Geralph Sam P. Villarubia; Desiree Joy D. Maxey; and Hayma T. Usman.
The benchmarking activity aimed to familiarize the delegation with CCAD’s Fine Arts Programs and their practices related to sustainable art materials, natural dye applications, and interdisciplinary art research.
CCAD Chair of the Internship, Linkages, and Partnership Committee Instr. Marlen Limpag led the activity, together with Dean Crina Tañongon and faculty members from the Fine Arts Programs.
During the discussion, the DOrSU team shared plans to further develop their dye products, particularly by improving their formulation from powder to paste.
CCAD’s Fine Arts Programs, meanwhile, expressed interest in testing the products in classes involving materials exploration and related activities.
The potential collaboration may also pave the way for future academic and creative initiatives between CCAD and DOrSU, including an exhibit featuring artworks created using the developed natural dye materials.
The initiative reflects CCAD’s continuing commitment to fostering partnerships that advance sustainable practices, interdisciplinary learning, and innovation in the arts.
