Several Communication faculty members served as jurors in the 2nd Cebu Metropolitan–Catholic Mass Media Awards (CM-CMMA), while Asst. Prof. Annie Perez-Gallardo won an award for her work submitted under ABS-CBN News.

Her work was recognized as Best Special/Investigative Report (One Part – English) in the Online/Print Category.

She submitted her environmental stories, including an in-depth report on the Binaliw trashslide titled “The Climate Risk Beneath Cebu’s Garbage” and an explanatory report on the mangroves of Mandaue City titled “The Multisectoral Struggle to Protect Mandaue’s Last Forest.”

Perez-Gallardo’s work was also nominated in other categories such as her episodes on the now-defunct “Ronda Probinsya” of ABS-CBN News for Best TV Program – Special Events, as well as her column, “Verbal Variety” of THE FREEMAN for Best Column – English.

Citations were also given to Communication faculty members who served as jurors in various categories of the awards.

Instr. Marlen Limpag chaired the Print Category, while Asst. Profs. Maurice Jitty Villaester and Dominic Yasay served as jurors for the Radio and Advertising categories, respectively. Asst. Profs. Mia Mateo and Grace Lopez also served as jurors for the Digital and Television categories, respectively.

Msgr. Agustin Ancajas, chairman of the Cebu Archdiocese Commission on Social Communication, said that despite the changing media landscape, the core values of media ethics—truth, accuracy, independence, and fairness—should remain unchanged.

“We recognize real people. Real journalists, who despite the threat of fake news and AI-generated content, remain true to the principles of media ethics. You are the people with the heart who listen to the stories of others, reach out to the communities, and report responsibly to society and to God,” he said.

Also present at the event were CBCP Chair of the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy, and Talibon Bishop Daniel Patrick Parcon.

The CM-CMMA is a biennial event that recognizes the valuable contributions of media practitioners from Cebu and its suffragan dioceses: Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Talibon, and Maasin.

The recognition highlights the Communication Program and CCAD’s continuing commitment to excellence, ethical communication, and responsible journalism in service of the community.
