Organized by the Teaching and Learning Resource Center (TLRC), in partnership with the College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD), the first workshop of FACETS 2.0: Faculty Advancement and Continuing Education in Teaching Series with the theme Harmonizing Standards: Aligning Instruction and Assessment in Communication and Art was successfully held on February 18, 2026 at AVR 1.

FACETS 2.0 served as CCAD’s proactive response to the recent External Quality Assurance (EQA) review, translating recommendations into concrete action. While the reviewers affirmed the strength of the College’s Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), they also identified key areas for improvement, including clearer vertical alignment across learning levels (LLO–CLO–PLO), more consistent Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) compliance, stronger mechanisms for measuring PLO attainment, and the development of more uniform and well-reviewed rubrics and assessment tools.

The workshop was tailored for the College by the TLRC team led by Assistant Professor Fernand G. Bernardez. The session focused on strengthening PLO, CLO, and LLO alignment in syllabi, reinforcing constructive alignment between outcomes and teaching-learning activities, and refining rubrics to ensure assessment authenticity and validity.

The workshop featured two resource speakers—Assistant Professor Sean Policarpio, who delivered a session entitled “Designing the Syllabus: PLO Alignment,” followed by Assistant Professor Jeraline Gumalal with her talk, “Authentic Assessment,” in the afternoon.

Bringing their laptops, sample syllabi, and grading rubrics, faculty members engaged in hands-on discussions and collaborative refinement of instructional materials.

The workshop reaffirmed CCAD’s collective commitment to teaching excellence, academic rigor, and creative integrity, ensuring that standards in communication and art education remain aligned, measurable, and forward-looking.
