Second Year BA Communication students under Comm 130-A officially launched Tapōk, a broadcast-feature collection highlighting stories grounded in community, labor, memory, and everyday Cebuano life, on May 22 at the Interactive Learning Center.

Derived from the phrase “Tapok sa Pook,” meaning “to come together in one place,” Tapōk served as a creative platform for students to present narrative-driven broadcast features that explore the people, spaces, and experiences quietly shaping Cebuano culture and identity. The project was presented under the guidance of course instructor Asst. Prof. Annie Perez-Gallardo.

The collection featured five original student-produced broadcast features:

  • Esmen Carinderia: Beyond Recognition
  • Latagaw
  • Pagdungog
  • KaWHYanan
  • Pan-de-Sipag

Through documentary-style storytelling and feature production, the students examined themes of resilience, livelihood, belonging, and cultural memory, bringing attention to everyday narratives often left unheard.

The event gathered students, faculty members, and guests in a shared space of reflection and storytelling, celebrating the power of communication and media in preserving local voices and lived experiences.

Tapōk reflects the continuing commitment of the BA Communication program to foster socially grounded, community-oriented storytelling through creative and critical media practice.
