The Concerned Artists of the Philippines Cebu Chapter will host a film screening, Same Old Same Old: State of the Nation on July 31, 2026 at the Lapu-Lapu Gallery.

The chosen films feature CCAD’s very own works from our alumnus and faculty, namely Cebuano Filmmakers Zhynnon Mantos and Assistant Professor Januar Yap.

Januar Yap’s Sibuyas ni Perfecto (2023) is a Cinemalaya short that won Best Feature in the 19th Cinemalaya. The film stars a vegetable farmer who intends to sell his produce to a businessman in order to buy a new pair of slippers for his child, while also fixing his damaged roof.

Huwebes Huwebes (2019) is also co-directed by Januar Yap, featuring three men and their personal stories that embrace the sea, depicting different lives, all battling one war (Letterboxd).

Zhynnon Mantos’s Human sa Panihapon bagged six awards in the 2025 Sinulog Film Festival, including Best Short Film, Best Story and Screenplay Award, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Production Design. The film stars Mila Marie Lagahit, UP Cebu Communication alumna, and Alan Rico Jr., who begin to see differences with one another since they last met (Aguja, The Freeman). The film shows the development of their friendship, questioning their livelihoods that are at risk.

Watch the films during Same Same Old: State of the Nation Film Screening run only on July 31, at 4:30 PM.
