Communication Program Faculty Members with reviewers Drs. Padilla and Matias during the opening of the EQA Assessment
The Bachelor of Arts in Communication program of the University of the Philippines Cebu successfully passed its recent external quality assurance (EQA) assessment.
The program received an overall rating of 4, equivalent to “Adequate as Expected,” from reviewers Dr. Philip Ian Padilla of UP Visayas and Dr. Aura Matias of UP Diliman.
Conducted on February 11–13, 2026, the assessment examined the program based on eight quality assurance criteria.
It covered expected learning outcomes, program structure and content, teaching and learning approaches, student assessment, academic staff, student support services, facilities and infrastructure, and outputs and outcomes.
The reviewers identified strengths of the program, such as clearly articulated and socially responsive program learning outcomes, an outcomes-based curriculum, and diverse and active learning activities.
They also commended the varied assessment methods, qualified academic staff, and mechanisms for monitoring student progress.
The assessors also noted that communication graduates have diverse career pathways, with employers expressing appreciation for their competencies.
Areas for improvement were identified as well, such as strengthening stakeholder feedback mechanisms, documenting curriculum and assessment reviews, expanding industry benchmarking, and upgrading selected facilities and equipment.
Despite this, the assessors concluded that the program fulfilled the requirements for the UP External Quality Assurance certificate.
The College of Communication, Art and Design congratulates the BA Communication program and hopes that the EQA assessment will serve as a roadmap for continued improvement to further strengthen the curriculum, learning environment, faculty development, student support, and graduate outcomes.
