Dr. Crina Tañongon, dean of the University of the Philippines Cebu’s College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD), will join Rappler’s panel discussion “How Citizens Can Come Together for a Better Cebu” tomorrow, October 14, 2026, at the University of San Carlos–Downtown Campus.

This is part of the media outlet’s series of activities entitled “#MoveCebu: Sugbo alang sa Sugboanons”,  a civic empowerment initiative that encourages citizens to participate in addressing local concerns.

Dr. Tañongon will share the panel with architect Yumi Espina and Atty. Jun Munterto and will be moderated by Mildred Galarpe of Sunstar Cebu.

As Dean, Dr. Tañongon will bring an academic and institutional perspective to conversations on civic participation and collaborative action toward a more liveable Cebu.

Rappler describes the discussion as how citizens can “work together to address pressing urban concerns, including flooding, waste management, and disaster recovery”.

It also aims to encourage residents to take an active role in identifying community concerns, engaging with stakeholders, and contributing to solutions that respond to the needs of Cebuano communities.

As dean of CCAD, Tañongon represents the role of higher education in fostering critical dialogue, community engagement, and creative approaches to social issues.

Her participation highlights how academic institutions can help bridge public discussion and community action by bringing together perspectives from communication, arts, and design.

Catch Dean Tañongon at the public forum tomorrow (October 14, 1–4 p.m.; University of San Carlos–Downtown Campus, Cebu City).
