The University of the Philippines Cebu, with its College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD) as witness, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Rappler on October 15, 2026.
UP Cebu was represented by Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Asst. Prof. Palmy Marinel Tudtud and CCAD Dean Asst. Prof. Crina Tañongon.
Rappler, meanwhile, was represented by MovePH Lead and Training Coordinator Jene-Anne Pangue and Community Lead and Journalist Pia Ranada.
“The partnership with UP Cebu really aims to engage the students and also the academe in terms of how we can build an active citizenry in Cebu. The goal really is for us to collaborate with different projects to move Cebu and then the Philippines,” Pangue said in an interview with DYUP Sugbo.
Rappler recently rolled out #MoveCebu: Sugbo alang sa Sugboanons, a three-day civic empowerment roadshow held from October 14 to 16.
For Tañongon, the partnership is important in amplifying different voices, particularly those of Cebuano communities.
“Not only from UP Cebu, but also citizens in Cebu especially, because we have different issues that need to be addressed. They have to be spread and that our government should be aware of these issues. We need the power of the media of the people,” Tañongon said.
Under the agreement, UP Cebu students will have opportunities to participate in training, workshops, internships, and fellowships.
Rappler will also help amplify UP Cebu’s activities through its platforms, among other collaborative initiatives.
The partnership underscores CCAD’s commitment to advancing media education, fostering civic engagement, and creating opportunities for students to use communication as a tool for meaningful community participation and social change.
