The College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD) successfully held CCAD Convos: Teaching in the Age of Generative AI: Integrity. Design. Intellectual Information on March 10, 2026, bringing together faculty members, students, and members of the wider academic community for a timely conversation on the evolving role of generative AI in higher education.
The session featured Dr. Rienald Adrian Pugoy, an AI scientist at the University of the Philippines Open University, who shared key insights into how generative AI is reshaping teaching practices, assessment methods, and creative work in academic environments. His talk encouraged participants to critically examine both the possibilities and the ethical considerations of integrating AI tools into pedagogy.
The discussion was further enriched by thoughtful reflections from the session reactors: Assistant Professor Mayette Tabada from the BA Communication Program, Assistant Professor Paula Mayol from the UP Cebu Department of Computer Science, and Joshua Narajos, a second-year student from the BA Communication Program. Their responses highlighted interdisciplinary perspectives on generative AI, emphasizing its implications for communication, technology, and student learning.
The event brought together participants on-site and online via a livestream on the University of the Philippines Cebu Facebook page, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas among educators, students, and community members interested in the future of teaching in an AI-driven landscape.
As part of CCAD’s extension and public service initiatives, CCAD Convos continues to create spaces for critical dialogue on emerging issues shaping communication, art, design, and education. This session contributes to advancing conversations aligned with Quality Education (SDG 4) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) by encouraging responsible innovation and reflective pedagogical practices in the age of generative AI.
