The Textile Innovation Lab under the Design Program of the College of Communication, Art and Design will hold a Terno Sleeves Workshop this afternoon, October 7, at Workshop 2.

The session will focus on the construction and patterning of the iconic butterfly sleeves of the Filipino terno, giving participants an opportunity to understand how its distinctive form is developed from pattern to garment.

The workshop will be led by Bree Esplanada, a Cebu-based Filipino fashion designer and illustrator whose practice explores the tension between the macabre and the whimsical.

Esplanada is a Fine Arts graduate of Cebu Institute of Technology–University, majoring in Graphics and Media, and an alumnus of the Fashion Institute of the Philippines in Cebu.

His work brings a strong visual-art sensibility to fashion, drawing inspiration from Philippine folklore, childhood memories, literature, fantasy, and the darker corners of the imagination.

Drawing from Esplanada’s practice in fashion design and illustration, the workshop offers participants a closer look at the techniques behind a familiar Filipino silhouette while exploring the possibilities of reinterpreting the terno sleeves through contemporary making.

The activity is part of the Textile Innovation Lab’s efforts to provide opportunities for hands-on learning and creative exploration in textile and fashion design.
