Phil Angelo Sevilla’s work to be featured in this year’s Tubo Art Fair | Jose T. Joya Gallery
Three winners and seven finalists of the 49th Joya Awards will be featured at this year’s Tubo Cebu Art Fair, as the Jose T. Joya Gallery of the University of the Philippines Cebu brings the works of emerging artists to one of Cebu’s major art events.
The student-run gallery, under the University of the Philippines Cebu’s College of Communication, Art and Design (CCAD), will highlight the three Joya Awards winners at its gallery booth: Phil Angelo Sevilla, Yohan Ungria, and Ian Bless Miguel Gilbolingo.
Meanwhile, seven finalists—Jasper Villacin, Rhou Ann Lopez, Dorothy Ouna, Vince Tesing, Samantha Nicole Sanchez, Dwayne Canoy, and Germie Tubo—will also be featured at the University of the Philippines Cebu booth.
“In keeping with this year’s curatorial theme, Resonance, these works trace how a younger generation of artists answers back to Cebu’s evolving art scene—not as an echo, but as a distinct frequency shaped by their own choices in material, context, and visual language. Each piece carries forward something inherited, while sounding a note entirely its own,” said Marie Nelle Valmoria, OIC Gallery Director and Head Curator.
Sevilla will feature his works To Grow a Garden in Ruins and Aftergrowth I & II, which explore decay and transformation.
Ungria will present works that primarily use acrylic and oil paint, while incorporating mixed media into his artistic practice. His works explore anatomy and social realism and are greatly influenced by Filipino social realist painters.
Gilbolingo’s paintings, meanwhile, highlight drawing through thread. His process incorporates a sewing machine, drawing parallels between pen and needle, ink and thread, and sketching and stitching.
Other artists, such as Canoy, will showcase a diverse range of mixed-media works, including non-sag epoxy sculptures, styro-sculptures, traditional sculpture, contemporary art, pop art, and oil-painted portraits.
The College of Communication, Art and Design invites its students, parents, alumni and friends to support these emerging artists.
The Tubo Cebu Art Fair formally opens on August 28, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Ayala Center Cebu and will run until August 31, 2028.
